HIV Infection Due to Blood Transfusion is a virus that attacks the immune system of a person, which is our body’s natural defense against sickness.
As it destroys a lot of CD4 cells and makes a lot of copies of itself, it steps by step breaks down a person’s system. This suggests someone living with HIV, who aren’t receiving treatment, can find it harder and harder to fight off infections and diseases.
If HIV Infection is left untreated, it’s going to take up to 10 or 15 years for the system to be so severely broken it will no longer defend itself at all. However, the speed of it progress can vary counting on age, health, and background.
What is AIDS?
AIDS is not a virus, however, a collection of symptoms (or syndrome) caused by the HIV Infection. An individual is claimed to have AIDS once their immune system is just too weak to fight off infection, and they develop certain defining symptoms and sicknesses. This is often the last stage of HIV, once the virus is extremely advanced, and if left untreated can cause death.
HIV Infection Due to Blood Transfusion
Some infectious agents, like HIV Infection, can survive in blood and infect the person receiving the blood transfusion. To keep blood safe, blood banks rigorously screen donated blood.
The risk of catching a virus from a blood transfusion is very low. Your risk of obtaining HIV Infection from a transfusion is less than your chance of getting killed by lightning. Solely about one in 2 million donations might carry it and transmit if given to a patient.
HIV Infection Symptoms
HIV Infection may not cause symptoms too soon. Those who do have symptoms could mistake them for influenza or mono. Common early symptoms include:
- Fever
- Skin rash
- A headache
- A sore throat
- Muscle aches and joint pain
- Swollen glands (swollen lymph nodes)
- Symptoms could appear from a couple of days to several weeks once an individual is first infected. The early signs typically go away within 2 to 3 weeks
After the first symptoms go away, an infected person might not have symptoms once more for several years. After a certain point, symptoms reappear and so remain. These symptoms typically include:
- Swollen lymph nodes.
- Extreme fatigue.
- Weight loss.
- Fever.
