One of the most obvious symptoms and signs of aplastic anaemia is because of bone marrow failure. Chronic Aplastic Anaemia is resulting in permanent bone marrow failure.
A bone marrow biopsy must confirm the diagnosis. Aplastic anaemia is a blood disorder in which the body’s bone marrow doesn’t make sufficient new blood cells.
Bone marrow is a sponge-like tissue located in inside our bones. It makes stem cells that develop into red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Furthermore, if your bone marrow can’t make enough new blood cells, many health difficulties can happen. These problems include abnormal heartbeats, an enlarged heart, heart failure, infections, and bleeding. Severe aplastic anaemia can even cause death.
Symptoms and Signs of Aplastic Anaemia
Symptoms include fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Aplastic anaemia can cause nausea and skin rashes. Besides, it may also cause symptoms related to having a low red blood cell count, low white blood cell count, or low platelet count.
These signs may be severe from the start or gradually worsen over time. Fatigue is the most usual symptom of anaemia. Other symptoms and signs of aplastic anaemia include:
- Pale skin
- Weakness
- Headaches
- Rapid heart rate
- Shortness of breath and chest pain
- Cold feeling in your hands and feet
- Dizziness, especially after standing up from a sitting position
Diagnosis and Treatment of Aplastic Anaemia

A rare and severe disease, aplastic anaemia can develop at any age. This disease may occur suddenly, or it can happen slowly and get worse over an extended period. Treatment may include medications, blood transfusions or a stem cell transplant, also known as a bone marrow transplant.
Operations include blood transfusions, blood, and marrow stem cell transplants, and medicines. Irreversible permanent bone marrow failure requiring at least two (2) of the following treatments:-
